about a trip

The minds of foreign exchange students boggle, nutrition consultants pull their hair, you won't have enough. Sprinkle with sugar and pour butter over!

An old Czech proverb says that there is no pie to munch on without a hrad work. We say that there are no dumplings to munch on without a hard work. Come with us to the border of the Pardubice and Hradec Králové regions to the small village of Podůlšany.

Podůlšany lies in the fertile Elbe lowlands, where farmers thrive, still growing in local vast plain fields something else than oilseed rape, which has been domineering the Czech countryside in recent years. Apples and cherries from Libčany, vegetables from Plotiště and strawberries from Podůlšany. And we will test the quality of those strawberries on our adventure trip. We will take you to Mr. Novák's field, pick the sweetest strawberries in the buckets with our own hands and then head to the garden of Lenka Voltrová, who will introduce us to the preparation of a typical Czech dish – leavened strawberry dumplings.

Your hands will not stay idle on our trip; under the supervision of Mr. Novák and Mrs. Voltrová, they will be transformed into so much celebrated so-called golden Czech hands. You pick the strawberries in self-picking, which is very popular among Czechs of all generations, and then process them yourselves into a traditional sweet treat. Because home-cooked meal tastes best!

And as cleanliness is next to godliness, collective cleaning will be the final activity that will help you to burn excess sugar in your body after lunch.

Is your mouth watering yet? Or are you just bursting to experience enriching encounters outside your usual cultural and social circles? Remember that there is no cake without work and book a place on our exclusive tour.

about a trip

“Upcycling is the process of converting waste material or unnecessary products into new materials or products of superior quality.” It is the oppo- site of downcycling, which, unlike upcycling, reduces product quality. - wikipedia.org

“Reality is all that (really) exists in contrast to mere assumptions, ideas, illu- sions, plans, wishes, possibilities, etc.” - wikipedia.org

“BDSM or love? Bath or shower? Latex or leather? Get stung by a bee or a wasp? Buy oneself flowers or buy flowers to others? Ecstasy or viral infection?"

These are among key questions in the tender for the sole participant in a precisely reconstructed record of “reality”. The course of a detailed psychological analysis of the trip participants is a screen that only one person – exactly fitting into the prepared construct – passes through.

What is reality? And does it exist, if we try to capture it and thus influence it? Only one of the sixteen participants will witness the reconstruction of the banal everydayness that is transformed into new materials and products of better quality.

about a trip

We will walk through the city landscape (aprox. 6 km). That is the only way to observe, look for hints, take notes. Together we will be members of the very first exploration of Ústí nad Labem. We’ll focus on the architecture and urbanism, history, locals, street-fashion, vibe of the remote businesses and places, where the time seems to have stopped. The genius loci. And there may be a treasure on the end of our journey in the second-hand eden. We’ll help you to find the souvenir that fits the best only and just to you. Our journey will be paused for several breaks to refresh ourselves, to have a chat over our observations and inspiration - so crucial when creating the contemporary urban-folk-costume. We look forward to all the new points of view and approaches. We will get to know the city in an brand new way.

The journey through the land of extinct volcanoes and the Elbe river valley is a pleasure for one’s eyes and soul at the same time. It will take us a bit more than hour so be sure to wear comfy shoes - the roads are solid. Keep an eye on the weather forecast. It might get quite hot so have some water please. Cameras and notebooks may come in handy.

about a trip

A typical Czech trip to a typical Czech pond. A snack, a blanket and a hat will come in handy. Swimsuits, for the braver ones. Typical idleness, typical staring at the water. So typical.

Define typical.

Staying at one place all day and minimizing the frequency of altering sensations. Calming your mind, escaping from the hustle and bustle of the capital. Putting yourself in the mood for the space, settling in it and feeling the quiet presence of water. Remembering that water is an element with its specific energy and not just utility fluid flowing from our taps.

The water goblin, a creature closely connected with Czech ponds, knows a good deal about this. The pond is his home, and, in exchange, he provides water areas with care.

Give and take.

That is what water goblin is. He will take care of you, but it won't be free. Just a typical Czech water goblin. Wondering who the water goblin is? What is he like? Come and spend a day in the immediate proximity to him. The water goblin will be a novel guide to your typical day at the pond – an area that he has explored like no one else.

There are no toilets in the area of travel, just the surrounding forest. Participants will spend the whole day in the countryside by the water, so we recommend appropriate clothing and other essentials at your discretion. Drinking water and food will be provided.

about a trip

We offer to the participants of this expedition an afternoon wandering with an evening catharsis in the picturesque Prague quarter of Spořilov. Due to its peculiarity and infrastructure isolation, it is an inhabited island of sorts.

The First-Republic garden town offers a harmonious blurring of urban-rural differences, respects and cultivates individuality, particularly its voluntary modesty. Spořilov's urbanism offers a generous and absolutely unique arrangement of public space. Unfortunately, although the values of this city district are inspiring and unique, they have been gradually degrading since the 1970s, mainly due to both amateurish and professional reconstructions and lack of heritage protection. The purpose of the trip is sightseeing, a survey of current real estate offers, their real state, a common reflection on their possible reconstruction and future use. The desired goal of the expedition is an investment in one of the properties, which is contingent on winning lottery.

Participants of the expeditions will be paid food and drink in local restaurants and a bundle of Sazka or Eurojackpot lottery tickets, which will be drawn the same day. Meeting at 3 pm at the Spořilov stop, terminal of 14 and 11 tram lines – in the First Beer Tramway pub.

Physical demands of a trip → scale ascending from 1 to 3
Sometimes you just hop on the bus or train, see stuff and go back again. Sometimes you will need to walk for some time or perform some other form of physical activity. Don’t worry, we are letting you know in advance.
Mental strain of a trip → scale ascending from 1 to 3
As you probably may have noticed the trips our travel agency offers aren’t quite like some sightseeing tours or last-minute all-inclusive holidays in a Djerba resort. We go deeper. Which sometimes requires you to go deeper as well. We understand not everyone may fancy - so we ranked our trips based on their overall intensity and necessity of your involvement - in order for you to choose the one that you’ll enjoy the most.
A deep affection for our homeland, for discovering its remote and hidden corners and also a sense of respect for the creativity of folklore traditions as well as for the everydayness were on the very beginning of our travel agen- cy Prague is not Czech. With the kind support from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts and the Theatre Institute we were able to create an exhibition addressing topics of centralisation of the artistic creation, cultural identity and maybe even loss of a national context.

We are group of students and our artistic production can be classified as something between a classical theatre and fine art. So why do we say that Prague is not Czech? Us personally is a great example of the centripetal forc- es of our capital - the way it absorbs both our careers and artistic work. Our exhibition is there to point out the variety of identities od each region and the influence they had - and still are having - on the shape of the so-called national culture.

The Prague Quadriennal, one of the biggest exhibitions of the stage design and theatre space, is a way too big opportunity for us so we don’t want to
display just empty models of ours. We want (you) to enter the real space of Czech land. This is the original stage design where all the inspiration is born. Where the live keeps its particular character.

The travel agency Prague is not Czech will offer visitors of the Prague Quadri- ennal 6 trips introducing Czech phenomenon of tramping, Slavic mythology, socially excluded boroughs, work and gastronomy, but even a urbanistic par- adoxes of our capital. We would not be able to make it on our own so there are quite few people helping us out with the trips: students of JAMU and FaVU in Brno, DAMU in Prague, girls from the arts-anthropology group called Czechia and theatre director and artist Michal Pěchouček.

Become a part of our exhibition and join us for a trip beyond the borders of the tourist center - into the deep woods, fertile lowlands, to places where the history of our country left a deep scar.

Let’s discover what lies ahead of us in the Czech groves. Let’s experience that Prague is not Czech!
Anna Chrtková
CEO and founder
Although I never lived in Prague itself there are lots of places around the whole Czechia I call home. Maybe that’s why I say: Prague is not Czech. As one of the founders of our travel agency I try not to be tricked by the glittering life f the capital. And whenever I have a while for myself I go out, looking for the places yet to be discovered. To feel the atmosphere - whether it is a adventure, dirt, romance or boredom. I guess the boredom is my major hobby.
Andrea Dudková
CEO and founder
I prefer train cause I usually puke on the bus. Apart from Prague I visited also Uherské Hradiště, Bruntál, České Budějovice, Olomouc and Ostrava. I like the Velký Lopeník hike - it is still my passion, although I have traveled most of the Bílé Karpaty mountains. As of my personal interests I like to take photography. I own numerous photo collection of flashing bushes.
Adam Dudek
Public relations executive
Anywhere I go, I carry a concentrated piece of Slovácko, a picturesque region where I grew up. To Brno, where I study, to Prague, where I work. But nowhere does plum brandy taste the way it tastes back home. Some things must be experienced. And that exactly is our expertise in the Prague is not Czech Travel Agency.
Matěj Nárožný
Head of the IT department and community manager
I was born in Morava, but my hometown is in Bohemia. Parents from Malá Haná, ancestors from Sudetenland. I don’t fancy big cities. My lifestyle is a small town, countryside is my holiday’s spot. I am proud of the Pardubice region. The town of Svitavy is my home. Whenever I can I try to show and also to show off all these beauties. To share the experiences our travel agency offers - that shall be my duty.
Frederika Halfarová
Guide
Home sweet everywhere. That's my life motto. Working at the Prague is not Czech Travel Agency unites both my passions – production and travel. During my studies of Theatre Production at JAMU in Brno, I often fled to various secluded places of our country, especially to my native region - to Prajzsko. My current work of courier is utmost fulfilling.
Martina Součková
Guide
I am exceptional. I am one of the few among our team who comes from Bohemia. Everyone know it. I am proud of it. My deep awareness of what the true Bohemia is like stands out among the other guides. The awareness of what true Czechia is like as well. And even the awareness of what both of them are not. And I like to remind people of it. Sharing my personal knowledge with clients of our travel agency and thus contributing to a general public education fulfills me in an inexpressible way.
Kristýna Žáčková
DTP operator
I like going out to the woods to pick mushrooms although I don’t eat them. I like to travel by train in the quiet department, seat 66 booked. I am from Prague and study in Brno. My occupation is graphic design and with the others from the Prague is not Czech travel agency we are creating marvellous stuff for you to experience.
Jan Matýsek
Jednatel a zakladatel
Because my work allows me to become just a digital nomad, very often I remember the mountains my little legs hiked countless times when I was a kid. Mountains on which peaks we greet the Polish guys and together we plant the roots that weave their way through each other. All over that place is my home. That is where my love towards others was born, my natural need to interweave, share and branch off the roots.
Eva Sýkorová
Business relationship manager
The work of a project manager is sometimes very exhausting. I draw strength and vitality from Czech nature and remote, forgotten corners of our country. But I am moved the most when I come back to the native region of the undulating Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, where the best potatoes grow.
Dominika Kuntzmannová
Head of the technology department
Coming from Pilsen I spent a serious part of my life on the foothills of the mountains of Šumava. In the country. That taught me what kind of tools to grab and also where humbleness and discipline comes from. That is why the city never burned me out.
Katka Balíková
Guide
I am from Morava, to be precise I live in Brno, but I like to travel around all the other parts of our beautiful land - I mean, it ain’t just Prague that ́s cool, innit. And working for our travel agency Prague is not Czech makes the traveling much easier for me! When not on travels I swot up for my studies of theatre production on JAMU. Time to time a job on some festival comes my way.
Barbora Gajdošová
Guide
When speeding through by the outskirts of any big city I leave some sort of stress hyperactivity behind. Vibe that is characteristic for the loud and way too hopped-up reality of urban areas. Working for travel agency Prague is not Czech is a mission, helping our clients to experience this sort of a purification. The ability to show them our beautiful land, our history and mythology - this is the, by everyone so often longed-for, career satisfaction and realization for me.
Marie Hájková
Video-production
I like to travel to remote parts of our country, and the collaboration with the Prague Is Not Czechia Travel Agency allows me to show the most magical details, which could otherwise pass unnoticed. Furthermore, I make experimental films with patriotic overtones.
Jakub Adamec
Audio-production
My heart is deeply rooted in the Moravian country, from which I draw inspiration for my audiovisual work. Collaboration with the Prague is not Czechia Travel Agency is a very natural result of my current development as a music producer. I live and create in Ostrava. I love it very much.
